Case 39 Movie Review

Case 39 is of a young girl being abused by her parents. Renée Zellweger is the case working, who manages to get the child removed, after the parents say they are going to kill her. But all is not as it seems in this supernatural thriller, as the girl is adopted by Renée strange things begin to happen, accidents occur and people get killed. A very creepy tale of everything is not as it seems!

Repomen Movie Review

Its the future and for whatever reason people's organs seem to be failing, insurance policies are taken out against organs and people are deep into extreme plastic surgery, such as getting completely new eyes or enhanced hearing ears. This of course is all done on credit, so when you miss a payment Jude Law and the other repo men come calling to repossess your organs! And its a case of they literally put you out and rip out whatever organ you missed payment on, basically leaving you for dead! Its another interesting premise for the future, but it all gets turned on its head when Law gets attacked during a job and is fitted with a new heart. He then joins the leagues of people hiding from the Repomen. Overall an unusual but fairly gruesome look at the future.

Shutter Island Movie Review

Well what can I say... I already knew before we went to see the movie that it was going to be about Leonardo DiCaprio's psyhcosis... and guess what it was!! Zzzzzzz. Ok there were a few twists and turns and a couple of exciting bits, but on the whole Scorsese produced another boring film. I was just thinking what else to say when I remembered... dun dun dun dun Dun Dun Dun DUN DUN DUN!! The overly dramatic, unnecessary music, it really didn't make it more scary, just really annoying and overly loud. Overall must try harder!

Gatorland-land

Today was a bit grey, so we decided to go to Gatorland. I'd been there ages ago, but it was Barry's first visit. The park is pretty basic, just filled with loads of gators, as you've probably guessed from the blog title! We fed the gators turkey sticks, and got slightly harrassed by a big bird who was also after them! The much tamer birds in the aviary got seeds on a stick, which they went nuts for. We also watched a spot of gator wrestling.

We shot a Glock

Today we went to a shooting range in downtown Orlando and tried our hand at shooting a real life Glock 17 9mm hand gun! We were also going to try an Uzi machine gun, but we didn't feel confident enough. This was basically because after we arrived the sales person literally went through 5 seconds worth of training, despite us telling him we'd never shot a gun before! So after our "you load it like this, aim like this, pull the trigger" instruction and being let loose in the firing range on our own, we stuck to the hand gun!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Movie Review

Percy Jackson and the Clash of the Titans rip off. OK maybe not a complete rip off, but there seems to be a theme occurring in Hollywood. Its a kids flick, but actually quite enjoyable, a little bit Narnia. The customary travelling back and forth, but some good action, mythology and special effects. It has the potential to progress and was not boring or led by a dufus lead role like Harry Potter! In a Harry Potter vs. Percy Jackson fight... Percy would win!

Looking at Condos

Looking at resorts for us to stay at in the future, brought up the very nice Grand Resort, which was spitting distance from where we were staying. Looking for that more personal touch than a hotel, these are self contained condos.

Armored Movie Review

A group of security guards go bad and actually steal their $40m haul, while pretending to get robbed. Unfortunately for Matt Dillon one of the guards has a change of heart and ends up being the thorn in their side trying to spoil the robbery. Simple setting in a warehouse, but manages to keep the action going with you rooting for the bad guy gone good.

All About Steve Movie Review

All About Steve... well all about Sandra Bullock. She's back to what she does best, likeable, loveable, believable rom com characters along with her trusty support and companion, Carol the hamster :-) Bullock plays a geeky work obsessed quirky character who doesn't quite fit in and falls for the wrong guy. It's a fun film with some heart break, but leads you to find that plcae where you fit in and belong. Critics may call it sentimental trip, but it was a nice uplifting movie. Ignore the Razzie it got for worst film!!

Flight with Metro Man

We had an early start to our holiday, as we actually decided to stay at the Courtyard Mariott at Gatwick the night before, as the flight was quite early Friday morning. Virgin was flying us, and as usual we had a great flight with great service.

One thing that amused us, was that across the aisle was an older metro man, that had obviosuly been dressed by his wife. Wearing loafers with no socks and my absolute pet hate, a scarf! Not only was he wearing a scarf, but he wore it for the entire 8.5hr flight and even when we got off the plane in 70 degree heat!! What a muppet.

Alice in Wonderland 3D Movie Review

Another slightly weird and wacky Tim Burton film. Depp slips in and out of Captain Jack/Willy Wonka and his new ginger haired creation the Mad Hatter. The effects are good and Bomham-Carter's large head is very effective with her small body. The 3D effect isn't particularly outstanding, with some scenes of monologue just looking flat, the full 3D seems to be saved for the more obvious action scenes. The story itself is a re-imagining of the book, with snippets of original story showing through, building up to a big fight with the Jabberwocky. However it seems to take too long to get there and drags slightly in the middle, with some of the usual trudging from A to B. It's weird as a kids film and a bit too slow for adults, luckily the 3D gimmick probably saves this film.
