Mechanic Movie Review

Mechanic is underground code for Assassin. Statham is a Mechanic and has to come up with some pretty elaborate ways of killing off his targets without raising suspicion. One of his targets turns out to be one of his best friends and mentors, but he carries out his hit without wavering. He then ends becoming the mentor to his mentors son and carrying out further hits all leading to the final twists and double crosses in the film. Unfortunately Statham doesn't get to do any of his trademark moves again in this film, but its still quite action packed. Not an outstanding film, but very entertaining none the less.

TRON: Legacy IMAX 3D Movie Review

Its been 23 years in the making, but the sequel to one of my favourite classics is finally here! Its 23 years later in the film too, and Flynn's son Sam is called to the old arcade, by a mysterious message from a pager, and is sucked onto the grid like his father. Clu has taken over the grid, now being played by a digitally de-aged Bridges. The real Bridges and son are basically now trying to escape.  Lets get this straight, this is basically an effects film, and it pushes digital limits with lightcycles, planes, de-aged Bridges and more all in 3D! Add to that the thumping Daft Punk soundtrack, 12,000watts of IMAX power and you have one seriously effects laden film. The story is pretty lacking, but who cares when the screen is lit up with high tech neon. IMAX and 3D seriously helped this film, especially with thundering sound vibrating you in your seat and the 3D imerssing you in the various chase sequences. A decent effects laden film, lacking substance and story, but still entertaining none the less.

Flashdance Theatre Review

What a Feeling! The story follows the plot of the 1983 film of the same name very closely, which is of a dancer stuck working in a steel mill and nightclubs while she tries and works her way into a dance school. The songs are all present and correct too, including "Flashdance" and "Maniac", they also stick in a few other 80's rock ballards including "Gloria" and "I Love Rock 'n Roll". The dancers work their socks off too, leaving you feeling exhausted! Swapping between steelworkers, street dancers and dance school, all in different styles of dancing. The iconic water drop from the Flashdance film is also present. Thumping sound, great dancing and leaves you feeling great, Flashdance is a hit, its a shame it finishes 15th Jan!

Happy New Year!

This weekend we had Mark, Carol, Charlotte, Elliot, Gareth and Sarah come to stay for some new year celebrations. Mark and Carol arrived early on Friday, which gave us time to spring the surprise panto on them, Sleeping Beauty at the Anvil.

As we headed towards midnight we watched Piranha 3D, which was just as silly and fun as when we saw it at the cinema. Champagne at midnight followed by chinese sky lanterns. Unfortunately someone's lantern crashed and burned ;-)

New Years Day we went back in time again to Christmas Day, for full on turkey dinner! Presents, more drink and food, too much food!
