Beryl's 70th and Ray's 65th Surprise Birthdays

And now for surprise two and three of the weekend in London! Beryl was shuffled into a car, and Ray only knew they had a 2hr journey, but they ended up right by the London Eye with us waving from the pavement. We then had a cruise down the Thames, taking in the sites of London. Taxis then took us back to our favourite Ice Bar in London followed with a huge chinese dinner at The New Mayflower. Another great day full of surprises!

Barry's Surprise 40th Birthday

Drinking by 11am, but had a good excuse! Barry's surprise trip to London, meeting with Mark, Carol, Charlotte, Elliot, Gareth and Sarah at London Ice Bar for cocktails and mocktails! Then onwards to surprise lunch at Henry's Bar in Covent Garden. The final surprise of the day was kept from everyone, and after unwrapping their Wonka chocolate bar clue, we headed to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical! It was a great day and surprises all round.

22 Jump Street Film Review

The three funniest jokes from this film are again in the trailer, the rest of the laughs are in the end credits. Everything else in between is just sub-par filler, with Tatum playing a dumb jock and Hill just babbling away (is this supposed to be funny). Just as well this was free with our Cineworld Unlimited passes. This is barely worth watching on DVD either, just watch the trailer and save yourself 90 minutes.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 D-BOX 3D Movie Review

We caught early preview of How to Train Your Dragon 2 this weekend. After the success of the first one you could tell they've put a lot of effort into this one, except just one thing, it wasn't as fun. The first movie played on Hiccup's goofiness and coming of age, along with the discovery of dragons being friendly. The second film everyone has grown up and gotten more serious. Hiccup is put in charge of the village and has to deal with the discovery of the mysterious Dragon Rider and the imminent threat of attack. There are still some amazing scenes of flying and battles, but there are also huge sections that really drag around Hiccup's parents. So while its a good film, its also a bit heavy going in places, not as good as the first.

The 3D was actually pretty good, really adding to the flying scenes. D-BOX moving chairs were also excellent adding in deep rumbles to the battle scenes and gliding gracefully through the sky with Toothless.

A Million Ways to Die in the West Film Review

Seth may have stretched himself a bit too thinly, what with Family Guy, American Dad, plus writing, directing, producing and starring in this movie and planning on Ted 2! Its a simple story, Seth lives in a town on the front, a mystery woman comes to town who he falls for, but it turns out she is the wife of the fastest shooter in the west. As usual some of the funniest jokes were ruined and in the trailer (why do they keep doing that?), and while this is the usual dead pan, kinda crude jokes you come to expect, I've seen much funnier 22min episodes of Family Guy. Yes it does make you chuckle in places, but runs flat towards the end. DVD job at best.

Edge of Tomorrow Film Review

This is Groundhog Matrix Day starring Tom Cruise. Take the time repeating nature of Groundhog (minus comedy), mixed with the tentacle alien invaders lifted straight out of Matrix, and you have Edge of Tomorrow. Mr Cruise is basically thrown into the war against his will, ends up on a beach landing where they are basically slaughtered. But because he has some alien blood splashed on him, the time looping starts (yes that is a bit of a flimsy story point). The endless loops of war then continue as he is trained by Blunt, over and over, feels like they are labouring a point a bit too much. With a bit of trimming it could have been better, as it is it repeats on you a bit too much with recycled ideas.
